Our Experience with Recess.gg

As a worldschooling family, we’re constantly exploring new ways to keep learning alive, not just through travel, but through experiences that excite and inspire our kids. Education for us isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about following curiosity, building confidence, and discovering passions along the way.

“I loved that I could join my coding classes from anywhere in the world,” says Kobie. “It didn’t matter if we were in Thailand or Bali, all I needed was my laptop and Wi-Fi. Plus, learning through Minecraft made coding really fun!”

Watching him explain logic, structure, and digital design concepts with excitement was amazing. It’s the kind of engagement every parent hopes to see. He’s also started teaching us a few things, which we secretly love (and occasionally struggle to keep up with!).

Skyla, on the other hand, fell in love with film making. She’s always been creative and expressive, and her film classes gave her the tools to bring her ideas to life. She learned how to plan shots, write short scripts, and even edit her own videos.

“My film-making classes were amazing,” says Skyla. “I got to make short videos, learn about storytelling, and even share my projects with other kids. Everyone was so helpful!”

I’ll never forget the day she showed us her first mini movie. A little story she filmed on her tablet about our travels. It was thoughtful, funny, and full of heart. Seeing her confidence grow through that process was so special.

Another thing Skyla really loved about Recess was the daily community hour. It’s this informal, fun hangout on a virtual campus, where kids get to play games, chat, and just be kids together. No pressure, no structure, just connection.

“The community hour was so much fun!” says Skyla. “We played games, chatted, and laughed together. It felt like having friends from all over the world.”

And she’s right. That sense of community is something that can be hard to find when you’re travelling full-time. Being able to log in, see familiar faces, and connect with other children who understand the worldschooling lifestyle has been incredible.

For Kobie, one of the coolest parts about Recess is the flexibility.

“It’s really cool to meet other kids who travel like us,” he says. “We all have different stories, but we can still learn together.”

As parents, we’ve loved how easy it is to fit classes around our lifestyle. Whether we’re on the road, exploring a new city, or taking a slow morning in one place, there’s always a class that works for us. The variety is incredible, from creative writing and game design to science experiments and art, there’s something for every interest.

Recess has been such a positive addition to our family’s learning journey. It’s not just about academics. It’s about confidence, curiosity, and connection. Skyla and Kobie have both grown in ways that go far beyond the screen: they’ve learned to express themselves, collaborate, and see learning as something joyful.
